Prep basketball roundup: Viewmont wins in overtime in San Diego

SAN DIEGO — Viewmont beat Granite Bay (California) 59-54 in overtime in the first game of the Surf ‘N Slam Tournament on Wednesday in San Diego.

The win, in the Vikings’ first game since Christmas, improved their record to 3-6 and snapped a six-game losing streak.

Josh Mordue scored 20 points on four 3-pointers to lead Viewmont. Chandler Cox added 13 points and nine rebounds, and Spencer Mackay scored 10 points.

The Vikings will play Kelso (Washington) on Thursday in their second game of the tournament in the “Surf” bracket at 3:15 p.m. with a chance to meet either Union (Washington) or Severn (Maryland) in Friday’s championship game.


HOLLADAY — Desert Hills used balanced scoring and big first and fourth quarters to hand Roy a loss in the Utah Autism Holiday Classic.

Alex Lamb posted his second 20-plus scoring game in a row, finishing with an even 20 points. Ben McBride scored 12 points and Alex Holley added 10 for the Royals.

Roy will play Jordan at 7 p.m. Thursday in the next game of the tournament.
